Neato flim-flam! Catechumen your NEF to JPEG in photographic camera
February 29, 2008
Just found a new trick. (maybe others already have posted well-nigh this i).
You can convert your NEF files to JPEG in your camera, in example you need to give a copy of an image to someone and they tin't open the NEFs.
Just become into the retouch menu, and cull color correct. Find your image, select the default of no correction, and then bingo you become a JPEG copy made on the card. At present simply plug your D3 in with a USB cable and grab the files. No wink readers, no software. Prissy!

I read information technology was possible to practise this with the D3, but when I looked for information technology I could not find how to practise it.
Is it possible to do more than one file at a fourth dimension? (Lazy question I know, but maybe you can shed some light before I can get to it.)

Does information technology keep the NEF? I would accidentally practise this on my D40 because the but way to await at the histogram was due to the retouch carte du jour... it would get rid of the nef. Collection me crazy everytime I did it.

I haven't tried information technology myself and then I can't give a definitive respond. Still, the D3 manual repeatedly calls it a "copy". Ane would hope that Nikon is using "re-create" to mean a true indistinguishable file.

Hey, no off-white! Yous've been reading the manual!

ane
Nikon sneakily hid this play tricks in the tabular array of contents on Page Viii of the manual, ("Tin can I use camera to create JPEG copies of NEF (Raw) photographs?") and and then spelled information technology out on page 367 under the heading "Creating JPEG Copies of NEF (Raw) Pictures."
I knew there was a reason they included that booklet in the box. The tip also is included in Affiliate v of "Nikon D300 Guide to Digital SLR Photography."
I'chiliad just teasing. It's actually great when folks brand over-looked features more widely-known. I recall it was a post hither that clued me in that it was possible to shoot sRGB and Adobe RGB images simultaneously.

I don't accept a D3 simply on my D80 it never deletes the original NEF regardless of the type of retouching you practise.

well certain, but thats non the point
I never shoot RAW + JPG. I shoot RAW and convert at dwelling. BUT, if I'm away from my machine information technology would be squeamish to be able to convert in camera to spit out a single jpg.
It's definitely a cool feature.

I don't think that'south possible on a D50.
Download ViewNX-i from Nikon:http://downloadcenter.nikonimglib.com/en/download/sw/29.html and install it on your estimator. Then open it and navigate to your card. Select the files you want to catechumen to jpeg. Choose File/Convert and fill in the different options to your liking. Click Convert and wait for the conversion to terminate. Y'all're done.
